Virtual School - Secondary participates in the SchoolMessenger Automated Student Attendance Reporting system for parents and students. This system allows parents to report absences 24/7 using either the phone number or by logging into SchoolMessenger online. School Messenger is to be used to record all student absences, including the Virtual Secondary School.

Your student's name will appear twice, once under the home school and the other under VSS, please ensure to listen for the prompts, so you can select VSS when entering the absence.
If you choose to record an absence by calling the 1-877-409-6310 number, please press 3 for student absences, the system will then ask you to enter your phone number and will then proceed to list your student’s home school first - then VSS.
Secondary absences can be recorded up until 1:45 p.m. daily.

All families must register for SchoolMessenger to report student absences online and set communication preferences for receiving messages from your child's school and the HDSB.

Please see the attached form here for the process to report a student's extended absence. Please complete two weeks prior to the planned absence.

The Student Information System has been designed to allow parents of students under the age of 18, the opportunity to access daily attendance data and credit accumulation information for their student without first having to contact their high school. Data for students who are 18 years or older is not available through this website because of legal restrictions. To discuss the information presented here, or if you believe there is an error in this data, please call your student's school. Your student's OEN (the nine digit number printed on your student's report card) and date of birth are required to access this information.

Enter student number leaving out the dashes and the student date of birth. This will bring up the students current timetable.
At the bottom you may 'select class for attendance report' that will show any absences and lates that have been recorded for the current semester.
You can check on each of the student's classes by re-selecting a class code from the drop down list.
On this screen you may also check the students credit history, courses selected, current schedule and Principal's message.
